HOW TO USE THIS SITE

Searching the database
To search the database, select the ‘Search’ link at the top centre of any page of this website. The resulting database search form allows searching by keyword, username (of recorder) and/or date of recording. Searches may be made of the entire database, or restricted to one or more categories selected from the dropdown menu. For detailed information on searching the database see Search Tips. It is not necessary to register with UKDFD to search the database.

Browsing the database
To browse the database, select the ‘Database’ link at the top left of any page of this website. The resulting database home page allows browsing of the two main sections: ‘Coins’ and ‘Artefacts’. Each of these main sections is subdivided into selectable periods, so that browsing can be restricted to relevant items. It is not necessary to register with UKDFD to browse the database. Note: The main sections, ‘Coins’ and ‘Artefacts’, can also be selected independently via their own links at the top of the page.

Other website features
Links at the top right of pages of this website are provided to display images of ‘Random Records’ and ‘Recent Records’. Provided the records have been validated, full details may be viewed by clicking on any of the images. It is not necessary to register with UKDFD to view these records or any of the UKDFD website content.

Uploading finds to the database
Before uploading any finds, please ensure that you understand the process by reading Guidelines for recording and Uploading a Coin or Uploading an Artefact, as appropriate. You may also find Photography Tips and Scanning Tips helpful in respect of producing the required images. If you have any difficulties, post the details on the UKDFD forum and help will be provided. You must register with UKDFD if you wish to upload finds to the database.

Using the UKDFD Forum
The UKDFD forum is provided for users to seek guidance on the eligibility of their finds and to discuss issues related to recording, identification, and the database itself. It is subject to conditions imposed by the administrators of the scheme in the form of an ‘Acceptable Use Policy’ (AUP), which will be strictly applied. You must register with UKDFD if you wish to use the forum.

Registering with UKDFD
If you wish to upload finds to the database, or use the UKDFD forum, it will be necessary to register. To do so, select the ‘Register‘ link on the index page of the database and follow the online instructions. Please note that on registering you will be required to confirm that you accept the Terms and conditions of Use and that you will comply with the Guidelines for Recording.
