    New Short Cross Guide

A new guide to the identification of short cross coins is now available on the link below.

I am very grateful to the many UKDFD members, whose records have provided the vast majority of illustrations it includes. It has been possible to illustrate almost all the known short cross classes and mints, even if in one or two cases I have had to resort to cut halfpennies and farthings! Interestingly, two of the classes (Chichester 5c and Shrewsbury 4c) were unknown before they were recorded here, further proof, if any be needed, of the valuable contribution to knowledge made by the metal-detecting hobby.

If you have recorded any short cross coins on the UKDFD over the past fourteen years, you might well find them in the article. Look carefully though, as necessary image-processing may have altered their appearance.

There may well be a few typos, wrong links, transcription errors, etc. If you notice any, please let me know and I will correct them as soon as possible.

For a more comprehensive identification of your find, please record it with the UKDFD at www.ukdfd.co.uk
