'Galley halfpence' circulated extensively in Britain from the late 14th to the early 16th century, and many are found and recorded by detectorists. Although frowned upon by the State, these small Venetian coins played a significant role in providing our small change. The revised article now illustrates and describes coins from the great majority of reigns that are likely to be found in this country.
