Description:
|
A lead bag seal of Webb & Sons, seed merchants. The seal is of the type that has a central hole through which the fastening cord is passed prior to stamping.
One side of the seal has the inscription, WEBB & SONS WORDSLEY STOURBRIDGE (around), THE QUEEN'S SEEDSMEN (across in three lines). The other side has the inscription, REGISTERED TRADE MARK around a crowned emblem, which has WEBBS across the top.
It would appear that the company was established during the reign of Victoria, the queen to whom the inscription refers.
