Description:
|
An incomplete circular copper-alloy seal matrix of the medieval period. It has a tapering hexagonal-section handle, which is broken at the top and missing the suspension loop. About 40 percent of the seal face is also missing. The device is a garnished shield of arms, and the partial Latin legend, in Lombardic style letters, is * S [ ]D[EE]VILLE: On the back of the seal face, there are four indented dots in quatrefoil formation to indicate orientation.
