Description: A die-stamped, flat, two-piece button with missing shank. An anchor crossed with two cannon.

Les Equipages de Haut Bord (Sailors of the High Shore) were a part of Napoleon Bonaparte's program to rebuild his navy after Trafalgar. Napoleon's idea was to train sailors as soldiers so that his ships did not have to carry separate contingents of sailors and marines.

Les Equipages de Haut Bord were created by Napoleon's decree on 1st April 1808 and disbanded in 1815. The 'No 10' is most probably the battalion number. Battalions were originally assigned to ports and ships. However, Napoleon was not able to put enough ships to sea for all the men mustered and so most ended up in the army. Even though they fought as soldiers rather than sailors, they still wore the uniforms of les Equipages de Haut Bord and so might have used the button as a soldier rather than sailor.
