Description:
|
An incomplete and corroded Ansate or equal-armed brooch of the middle Anglo-Saxon period.
The arms are fragmented, they may originally have been sub-rectangular or circular in shape. The bow appears to have been damaged resulting in a shallow arch, thereby forcing both arms in a upward direction. The brooch appears to be undecorated, though any original decoration would be lost due to corrosion. The back of the brooch has two widely spaced hinge-lugs and a catchplate, but the iron pin has been lost to corrosion.
