Edward III demi-sterling of the Duchy of Aquitaine.

Date of Issue
The date of issue of these coins (sterlings and demi-sterlings) is somewhat uncertain, and at one time they were even attributed to Edward II. After considering all the evidence, Elias (see Reference below) came to the following conclusion: "... we find that the date of 1344 would be the most likely from the point of view of monetary history, which conclusion is, however, contradicted by conclusions drawn from the hoard evidence. If we accept the conclusions from the hoard evidence as decisive, then the years 1335-37 can be considered as a possibility."
