A cast copper-alloy sword-scabbard chape of the late Anglo-Saxon or early medieval period. The chape is U-shaped in plan and has U-section sides. The front face has a narrow transverse metal strip at the top end, which connects the two sides. The back face is open with an in-turned 'bird's head' terminal at the top of each side. Decoration is limited to two incised parallel lines spanning the full length of the frontal strip.
