A Roman brooch of the Polden Hill type. It has the characteristic pierced lugs at the end of each wing to retain the axis bar of the spring mechanism and a rearward facing hook to secure the chord. The bow is tapered, decorated with a half-moon flange on each side of the head, terminating in a blunt foot defined by an incised transverse groove. The spring mechanism, pin, and triangular catchplate with curved return remain in situ.
