A lead bag seal of the Sicilian Sumac Export Society.

One side of the seal is inscribed SOCIETA PER L' ESPORTAZNE DEI SOMMACCHI DI SICILIA (Society for the Export of Sicilian Sumac). The other side is inscribed PALERMO. Both inscriptions are within beaded circles.

Sumac is a flowering shrub or small tree with compound leaves and reddish hairy fruits in conical clusters. The leaves were used in the leather-tanning process and for dyeing fabrics.
