Description:
|
A silver finger ring of the late Anglo-Saxon period.
The ring is formed from a strip of rectangular-section silver, the ends of which have been tapered for coiling around each other. One end retains the coils; the other has either straightened, or the extreme end has broken off. The ring is of a type that is associated with the Vikings, and was popular during the 9th and 10th centuries AD.
A surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content of 99%.
