An Aesica brooch of the early Roman period.

The brooch is of the closed Aesica type, cast in one piece with integral wings and backplate. The spring was retained by a central rearward lug with separate perforations for the axis bar and chord ('Colchester B' spring gear). The arched bow with side-knobs and pronounced ridges, and the straight fantail leg, both with dot-and-circle decoration, are characteristic of the Aesica type. The spring and pin are missing.
