A complete copper alloy crotal bell. This small bell is very well formed with a defined circumferential rib and is in excellent condition with its iron pea clapper in situ. There are traces of tinning in the recesses of the decoration and around the junction of the suspension loop. The integrally cast suspension loop is carefully shaped, filed flat on both faces and the perforation is drilled very close to the body; diagnostic traits that indicate that this bell is very early in the crotal series. The upper cup is decorated with 12 plain petals. The lower cup is decorated with a double row of scales and the founders mark ’CL’ within a semi-circular border each side of the sound bow.
