Description:		A square copper-alloy 'clan' button from a Scottish jacket. The button is of two-piece construction and depicts a heraldic device surrounded by an inscription in Gaelic lettering. The heraldic device is a round shield bearing the Scottish lion rampant over a crossed sword and battle-axe. The Gaelic inscription is ClAnn nAn GAel / An GuAllibh A Cheile (the Gaelic G looks like a number 3), which translates as "Family of the Gael, shoulder to shoulder." The front of the button is umbonate; the back has a circular recess, at the centre of which the (intact) wire shank is brazed or soldered. It is back-marked with the maker's mark, SWORD MAKE - MADE IN ENGLAND. There is a crossed sword trademark (registered in 1893) between the first two words.

Description:		A tiny cast two-piece button with separate embedded copper-alloy wire shank. The front of the button is slightly convex and depicts a crown (or similarly shaped motif) in sunken relief. The back is flat and plain, and the shank consists of a simple U-shaped loop. The design is very worn and indistinct, suggesting that the metal may be a soft alloy. Note There are possible traces of an inscription in relief around the design (reading (?) IMPERIAL at top), but too worn to be certain. Possibly a toy uniform button.

Description:		A two-piece silver button with separate soldered shank. The front of the button has an asymmetrical curlicue design in high relief around a plain umbonate centre. The maker's mark, R&W, and the Birmingham Assay Office marks for 1901 (anchor, lion passant and letter 'b') are stamped into the design. The back of the button is plain with a simple looped wire shank. The maker's mark is that of Samuel John Reynolds & George Frederick Westwood trading as Reynolds & Westwood, silversmiths, Vyse Street, Birmingham, circa 1896-1910.
