The central section has decorative bands of transverse grooves at each end, and the terminal is in the form of a very stylised animal head with a narrow elongated snout which has been formed into a rearward facing hook. Examples of this lesser known type from stratified archaeological contexts suggest that it was introduced about the end of the 8th or the beginning of the 9th century and remained popular into the 11th century.

A small gilt copper-alloy strap fitting, most likely a strap-end dating to the late Anglo-Saxon period. The face is decorated with an incised cross-hatched design, and much of the surface gilding survives. The plate is cast with a bifurcated end that is pierced for two copper-alloy attachment rivets, one of which remains in situ. The terminal end is now incomplete, with the short remains of a projection located each side of centre.

No exact parallel has been traced to date, but the style is consistent with later Anglo-Saxon strap fittings. The projections could have once formed part of a composite hinge assembly, or are possibly the side wall remains of a central aperture once formed at the terminal end.

An incomplete Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic strap-end of Thomas Class B, Type 5 (see reference below). The split attachment end is now missing and only the lower part survives. To the face, a singular panel is decorated with an interlaced ribbon design of Scandinavian influence. The raised and pointed animal-head terminal is very stylised with additional transverse grooving.

This strap-end is of an uncommon variety and dominant to the north of England. For comparison purposes, few complete examples exist, especially with the devolved and raised zoomorphic terminal as above. Rather oddly, more bent and broken examples have been recovered.
