A ’Tealby’ class C2 Bury St. Edmunds Penny of Henry II. The legible letters in the reverse legend appear to be hEN?I: so HENRI is a possible moneyer. The only mint that appears possible with a moneyer of this name is Bury St Edmunds. Unfortunately the very wide spacing of the letters on the reverse seems incompatible with the mint signature of S.EDM, which is usually used at this period. Fitzwilliam Museum comment: "There is no coin from these dies in the British Museum Catalogue of the Tealby coinage, which is our usual guide to the identification of these coins. However, a new study of the Bury St Edmunds mint being prepared for publication includes two coins which may be from the same dies, with the distinctive spaced lettering remarked upon by Rod Blunt."
