Description:		A large medieval copper-alloy key with incomplete (circular?) bow, circular-section stem with pipe-end and simple bit. The upper portion of the stem is decorated with multiple incised circumferential lines. The form of the key is closely similar to that of much smaller casket keys of the same period, and it seems most likely that it was used for locking a larger chest.

Description:		An incomplete iron implement, most likely a locking key of late medieval or early post-medieval date. The bow would originally have been kidney-shaped, but has been bent such that it is now perpendicular to the shank. The shank has baluster decoration to the upper part, but the lower part is bent, and the end, along with the bit, are missing.

Description:		A barrel (or spring-barb) padlock case of the medieval period. The case is of irregular octagonal cross-section with moulded zigzag decoration on the base. The arm is of rectangular cross-section and pierced near the centre. The bolt is of sub-circular cross-section and tapers down towards its free end. The locking mechanism is missing. The MoL example referenced below was recovered from ceramic phase 8 (c.1230 - c.1270). The MAOA examples are all dated c.12th century. For further information, see Ceejay's Metal Detecting Pages.
