A relatively unknown/unclassified type of bow brooch dating to the late Iron Age period. The brooch has a sub-rectangular sectioned bow, now distorted, which reduces in thickness towards the (missing) catchplate end. The head of the brooch displays a 'bird-like' zoomorphic feature, cast with wide eyes in low relief. The bill of the bird projects centrally from the head and would in turn form the coiled spring mechanism and integral pin, but only a short stub of this survives.

A similar brooch of the period is recorded as NLM-E90E4D. A copper-alloy Knotenfibel brooch of the Late Iron Age period. The brooch is of a one-piece construction with a right-angled bend close to the head. The solid carnyx-shaped head has La Tène style elliptical mouldings to each side in low relief. The boss, located directly after the bend, is composed of fully rounded reel and spool mouldings. The lower bow is round in section and has the remains of an ornate openwork catch plate. The integral coiled spring is now mostly missing, only one coil of which survives projecting centrally from the head.

Knotenfibeln (the German name in its plural form) originated on the continent between about 50BC and 20BC, and possibly reached Britain a little later. They were predecessors of the native British Birdlip type.
