The hinged lid only from a set of nested copper-alloy cup-weights. The lid is incised with three concentric double-line circles on both the inner and outer faces, and the latter is also inscribed with the Roman numeral XVI and some uncertain letters. It would originally have been attached to the outer cup of the set, and retains its hinge lug and locating lug. The hinged assembly of the lid and the outer cup would have provided the largest denomination, 16 ounces in the present case, as indicated by the inscribed XVI. The uncertain letters possibly include an 'A' for the averdepois trade weight system, although sets of this type are usually associated with the troy weight system used for weighing precious metals. The other weights in the set would have been binary divisions, i.e. 8, 4, 2 and 1 ounces and possibly half an ounce.
A metric weight with a denomination of 50 grams. The weight is of flat, discoidal form and made of copper or copper alloy, most likely cut from a round bar but now extensively bruised and scratched overall. One of the faces is stamped with the denomination, 50g. No verification marks are discernible, and it is likely that the weight is unofficial.

Although adoption of the metric weight standard had been discussed in Parliament as early as 1818, it was not until the Weights and Measures (Metric System) Act was passed in 1897 that metric weights were made legal in the United Kingdom.

A cylindrical lead weight stamped on the upper face with a cross in a circular recess.

It has been suggested that the object is a half-ounce trade weight of the Commonwealth period, the stamped cross being a version of the shield of St George. In support of this identification, page 49 of the 1996 publication Marks and Marking of Weights and Measures of the British Isles, by Carl Ricketts with John Douglas, is cited, which does indeed illustrate an identical mark and identify it thus. The present writer, however, has some reservations regarding this identification, among which are the following:

1. Notwithstanding the cited publication, the cross of St George is normally in a shield-shaped recess when used as an official verification mark on weights of the Commonwealth (e.g. UKDFD 52520 and PAS: SF-566090). (Most verified weights of the period bear the conjoined shields of St George and Ireland.)
2. The cylindrical form of the weight is unusual for trade weights of the period.
3. At 11.98g the weight is more than 15% below the averdepois standard (1/2 oz = 14.2g).
4. No persuasive parallels have been traced in the literature or online.

A round uniface weight, manually stamped with the numbers 9 and 0 over a semicircle flanked on each side by a short horizontal line. Below the semicircle there appears to be a lion rampant verification mark, but the detail is indistinct.

The stamped numbers in relation to the recorded weight are not consistent with any of the common contemporary weight standards, but the object could plausibly be a coin-weight for checking the Portuguese gold escudo. This coin circulated in England during the 18th century at a value of nine shillings, but the recorded weight of 2.6g is well below the escudo's standard weight of 3.58g. The use of the number 0 to indicate zero pence would also be very unusual at the time, weights for this denomination normally having the number 9 (for shillings) alone.

Weights that are stamped with incuse values in this way were made by various traders who bought blanks from wholesalers and stamped them using their own punches.
