A two-piece sub-rectangular strap clasp, the operation of which is based on using the tension in the strap to exert a clamping force between the jaw and the frame. The design is such that such the clamping force is proportional to the tension. The underside of the chape/jaw appears to be stamped, PATENT NO 2505, but details of this patent have not been traced at the time of validation.

The design of the clasp suggests a heavy duty use, possibly associated with military webbing. It is plausible that the pierced ends of the anchor chape were to facilitate riveting, and that the central recess on the moving jaw was to enable a pin to be fitted for extra security.
