An incomplete hinged copper-alloy strap-end of the early Roman period. The surviving part of the strap-end is one component of a two-part assembly, namely the 'plate' with its hinged end. The other component, a decorative pendant suspended from the plate, is now missing, its loss most likely due to the corrosion of an iron hinge-pin. The plate is rectangular with a small transverse rib close to the hinged end. The hinged end itself is expanded and flanged to carry the barrel of the hinge. The hinge would probably have had a total of seven drilled knuckles, the four present on this plate and the remainder on the missing pendant. The front of the plate appears to have had incised decoration, but the detail has been lost to corrosion. Traces of tinning, however, are present overall. The means of attachment are unclear on the images, and it is probable that the free end of the plate is incomplete.

The very similar, but somewhat larger, strap-ends cited in References below are identified as 'pugio frogs' (i.e. dagger frogs), and the authors note that "a pugio would have hung from two of these, one on either side". The 'decorative pendant' on these strap-ends terminates in a button, forwardly offset to serve as a stud on which the scabbard was suspended.

A cast copper-alloy mount of the Roman period, most likely from a belt or strap. The mount consists of two integral elements, one sub-circular and one lunular, conjoined in a figure-of-eight fashion with the horns of the latter element facing outwards. On the back of the mount there is the stump of an integral rivet/stud at the centre of the sub-circular dome.
A rectangular strap fitting of the Roman period, possibly a belt mount or stiffener. The fitting is in the form of a symmetrical bar with a slightly convex front surface, a raised square moulding at each end and a similar one in the centre. On the back there are two transverse lugs, one near each end of the fitting, both drilled centrally, but now broken across the holes. In view of the axial alignment of the drilled holes, it seems likely that a pin was used to secure the fitting after inserting the lugs through holes in the strap. The orientation of the lugs differs from that of those on the fitting cited in References below.

Andrew Appels (see UKDFD 7289 and References below) notes that fittings of this type are unusual finds in Britain, the majority of them emanating from the continent.
