											A Britannia metal (pewter) whistle of the post-medieval period. The body is cylindrical with moulded ribbed decoration, it has an incurved underside (fipple) to the mouthpiece and a half moon window (sound hole). The terminal knop is pierced for suspension.<br />
<br />
In the 1870 Thomas Yates catalogue of whistles, this type is classed as a dog call.

											A hollow cast lead water whistle, most probably representing a cockerel, features on the bird include a comb on the head, wattles on the neck and exaggerated tail feathers. Fragments of the missing base of the water chamber are visible inside the base on which the bird is mounted. A circular pipe projects downwards from beneath the tail feathers, the upper section of the pipe which terminated with the mouth-piece and projected upwards probably in a dog-leg fashion is also missing. Vestiges of red and black paint are visible on the body and base. <br />

											A working sheet copper-alloy whistle with a loop at one end for attaching to a lanyard. The pierced end-knob to which the loop is attached is patterned, but the remainder of the whistle is plain. A small pin, possibly for changing the pitch, protrudes axially from the underside of the body at the loop end.<br />
