											A detached zoomorphic foot from a late medieval candlestick which is cast in the form of a seated lion with engraved features. The lion would have been one of three figurative feet, together supporting a raised base plate with central holder (see image 6, taken from Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam).<br />

A short length of stem below the second collar served as a spigot to attach the stem to the (missing) base of the candlestick. The underside of the collar served as a shoulder to locate the stem axially within the base. The socket is parallel and undecorated. There is a 5mm diameter hole immediately above the basal collar, the function of which is uncertain.

											A cast copper-alloy candlestick of the medieval period. It has a discoidal base with three short legs, a tapered polygonal stem, and a socket with a forked support. The base is decorated with three concentric grooves, and there are further grooves around the stem. Part of the base is missing.<br />
<br />
Early candlesticks of this type are believed to have been imported from the Continent and are rarely found in England. The <i>The Medieval Household</i> example cited below was recovered from ceramic phase 11 (c.1350-c.1400).<br />

The stem, and each of the three arms, terminates in a loop, and there is an additional loop at the centre of the underside. The terminal loop on one of the arms is now damaged and incomplete.<br />
