											A surgical horseshoe for treating laminitis (inflammation of the laminated tissue that attaches the hoof to the foot). It is oval with three raised sections for hoof support, and the right and left-hand sides have three and four visible nail holes, respectively. The large size suggests it was for a shire type horse.

Blacksmiths also used to &quot;fire weld&quot; used long horseshoes into this shape for use in the game of quoits!

The calkins are tapered and turned under, and there is no evidence of fullering (as often found on later shoes). It is probably a riding shoe of the early 18th century.
