Description:		A rare variant 'Watford' type penny of Stephen, struck at York. The king holds a flag or pennant in place of the Watford type sceptre, and there is a star to the right of it. On the reverse, the legend is a mixture of ornaments and apparently meaningless letters, some retrograde. Flan chipped 11-2 o'clock.

Description:		Stephen penny of Canterbury, cross fleury type, BMC Type VI. Straightened from the folded and cracked state in which it was found.  The moneyer's name begins with the letter 'E' followed by the seriffed upright only of the second letter. No other part of the name is legible. Only two Canterbury  moneyers with initial letter 'E' are presently known for Stephen's reign: Edmond (or Edmund) is recorded for coins of BMC Type II and VII and Edward (or Ædward) for Types I, II and VII, with an additional tentative attribution to Type VI.
