Many York coins do not closely relate to the present classification system, which is based on dies made in London. Some of the dies used at York were made in London, but others were made locally, which results in some difficulties with classification. The present coin will have been struck contemporaneously with coins struck from London-made dies of class F or class G.

A late medieval penny struck at the ecclesiastical mint of York. The coin is badly mis-struck from worn dies, which were probably locally made, and the obverse legend is almost completely illegible. However, the wide spacing of the beads on the inner circles. along with the pelleted quatrefoil in the centre of the reverse, suggest that the coin is most likely from the reign of Henry V.
