A miniature royalist medalet, one of a 'boxed' set that was named the 'Windsor Castle' set. The box was actually made of gilded copper alloy and somewhat resembled a shallow circular pill box with a pull-off lid. The lid bore an impression of Windsor Castle, and the base bore the crowned royal arms with supporters. There were three versions of the set produced, consisting of 8, 7 and 5 medalets respectively, but all contained a Victoria medalet. The other medalets depicted Prince Albert and the royal couple's first six children, the latter being struck on smaller flans of just 8mm dia. The sets are believed to have been made circa 1848/49 at the workshop of Joseph Moore, who is well known for his production of various miniature 'model coins' (e.g. UKDFD 53612).
