Description: A late medieval to early Tudor period purse bar. The bar has an oval boss at the centre, and short, triple-ribbed, circular-section side bars. The oval boss has a central hole for the stem of the suspension loop, and each side bar is fitted with a rounded terminal collar, which would have flanked the pendent frame. The bar-ends are riveted to retain the collars. Both the suspension loop and the pendent frame are now missing. Traces of silvering or tinning are present on the surface.

For a similar example with intact suspension loop and a fragment of the frame, see UKDFD 34307.

Description: A fragment of a late medieval to early Tudor period purse bar, comprising one arm and terminal knob, and a flange with two stitching holes (one broken). The bar is decorated with an incised latticework pattern, which is filled with niello. The broken end of the arm has a moulding in the form of a stylised beast's head gripping the bar. The break has occurred at the junction between the moulding and the central suspension loop boss.

Description: A fragment of a late medieval purse bar. It consists of the central shield-shaped boss and part of one of the two arms. The shield-shaped boss is decorated on both faces with an incised 'W' shape, which appears to have a niello inlay. The inner end of the arm is moulded in the form of a devolved animal-head gripping the bar. The outer end has broken off.

Purse Frame https://www.ukdfd.co.uk/v46/artefact/medieval/purse-frames-including-bars-and-suspension-loops/purse-frame-6345.html Sun, 11 Mar 2007 00:00:00 GMT Purse frames (including bars and suspension loops) Purse Frame
Description: A large, complete pendent purse frame of the late medieval period. It is curved and gently tapered towards each end, and is L-shaped in cross-section. The ends are hooked for suspension from the bar, and there are five holes along the length for stitching to the purse. The front face of the frame is decorated with a niello-inlaid scroll design, interspersed with a three-word inscription. The inscription is worn and faint, but LAVS TIBI can be discerned, and the full inscription is possibly LAVS TIBI SOLI - Praise to Thee Alone.

Description: A fragment of a pendent purse frame of L-shaped cross-section with two sewing holes (one broken open) in the base flange and an inscription with related decoration on the front face. The surviving part of the inscription appears to read IAORA, followed by a floral flourish, and further illegible letters. The full reading was possibly [SANCTA MAR]IA ORA [PRO NOBIS] (Holy Mary, pray for us), but this is conjectural. Both ends are broken.
