Hinged Lock Hasp https://www.ukdfd.co.uk/v46/artefact/medieval/keys-and-locks/hinged-lock-hasp-47690.html Mon, 09 Mar 2015 00:00:00 GMT Keys and locks Hinged Lock Hasp
Description: A hinged lock hasp from a small chest, casket or similar piece of furniture. The body of the hasp consists of a flat bar that widens at one end to accommodate a separate U-shaped bolt loop, which is riveted to it. The same end of the bar has an integrally cast loop, while the opposite end is plain, but probably incomplete. The position of the bolt loop suggests that the hasp would have been pivoted at the incomplete end, and the surviving loop used to attach a ring or cord to provide purchase when lifting it.

The examples referenced below are all of iron, but of closely similar form and construction. They were recovered predominantly from ceramic phases 9-12 (c.1270-c.1450).
