Description: A pinner's (pin-maker's) bone of the late medieval to early post-medieval period. The bone, probably from a cow or horse, has been carved to produce a tool that can be held firmly while being used. The working end of the tool is of rectangular cross-section, and the faces have a series of longitudinal grooves. It is believed that the grooves were used to grip a pin while its tip was filed to a sharp point. There is some damage and cracking of the tool.
