Sear (see References below) annotates the entry thus:
'This type has traditionally been ascribed to an Aurelius Rufus, but Crawford prefers to identify the moneyer with the consul of 128 BC. Either reading of the monogram is plausible (i.e. AV or AN). The reverse represents another departure from the traditional iconography of the Republican coinage, a trend which was soon to gather momentum.'
