Description: A contemporary forgery of a James I royal farthing. Privy mark, three fleurs-de-lis, obverse only.

The following irregularities are present:
1. The obverse abbreviation BRIT (rather than BRI) in combination with the three-lis privy mark is unknown for a genuine farthing. (C W Peck, BM Cat.)
2. The reverse crown appears to have only five pearls on the band, instead of the nine found on genuine farthings.
3. The style is very coarse.

Description: Charles I counterfeit royal farthing. No genuine farthings of this issue exist with cross pattée privy mark and CARO-BRIT legend, The use of a colon after ET is also anomalous. C W Peck (Emglish Copper, Tin and Bronze Coins in the British Museum) notes "Despite Weightman's recordings it appears from the evidence so far available that no genuine CARO-BRIT pieces with the large 9/9 jewelled crowns exist." Tim Everson (The Farthing Tokens of James I & Charles I - see ref below) concurs.
