											A uniface workplace tally of Rossendale Printing Co. The tally is die-struck, with a stamped number 464 at the centre. Tallies were used by workers in various industries for such purposes as withdrawing tools from stores, collecting wages, and in the case of miners, indicating when they were underground.<br />

The company was an exhibitor at the Royal Jubilee Exhibition of 1887<br />
 The Rossendale Printing Co., 33, George Street, Manchester. Printed Cretonnes in Reps, Toile a Voile, Sateens for Quilts, Crepes, Twills, &c. Printed Calicoes of all kinds for home trade and export. Printed Fancy Cloths of various kinds for dresses.<br />
<br />
Grace's Directory of 1891 lists the company as Calico Printers based at Loveclough Printworks, Crawshawbooth, Rawtenstall.<br />

											A workplace tally of Royce Limited of Manchester, forerunner of the famous motor car company, Rolls Royce Ltd. The tally is rectangular with chamfered corners and an upper central piercing. It is die-struck with the raised inscription ROYCE LIMITED MANCHESTER on the front, along with a manually stamped identification number, 146. The reverse is plain. <br />
<br />
Tallies were used by workers in various industries for such purposes as withdrawing tools from stores, collecting wages, etc. <br />
<br />

1884 - Formed as Royce Limited.<br />
1891 - Registered on 4 June, as F. H. Royce and Co, to take over the business of electrical and mechanical engineers of the firm of the same name.<br />
1894 - Became a limited company.<br />
1904 - Company manufactures their first car.<br />
1906 - Henry Royce and Charles Rolls form Rolls Royce Limited to manufacture cars.<br />
1932 - Acquired by Herbert Morris of Loughborough.
