Description:		AE4 commemorating Rome at the time that Constantinople, the ’New Rome’, was founded. The coin was purportedly struck at Lyons, AD 335, during the reign of Constantine I (the Great), but it is possibly a contemporary copy struck in Britain. At 14mm it is somewhat smaller than the typical 17mm of official coins, but more significantly the obverse legend appears to be blundered. It appears to read VHBs HOMA rather than VRBS ROMA, the R's resembling H, and the S being much smaller than the other letters. The coin is of good style but the legends possibly betray the illiteracy of the die-cutter.

Description:		AE4 of the ’Gloria Exercitus’ type. The reverse depicts two soldiers standing either side of a standard, and has the legend GLORIA EXERCITVS (Glory of the Army). This ’single standard’ type was struck in the names of Constantine I, Constantine II, Constantius II, Constans and Delmatius between AD 335 and 340. The obverse legend on this coin is not sufficiently complete to attribute it.

Description:		AE4 commemorating Rome at the time that Constantinople, the ’New Rome’, was founded. The coin was struck at Trier, AD 330-334, during the reign of Constantine I (the Great). Note There are countless contemporary imitations of this issue and other small bronze coins of the 4th century. Many of the imitations are not easily distinguishable from the official coins, particularly when worn. The approach taken by the UKDFD is to treat the coins as genuine, provided (a) they are of credible style with literate legends, (b) they conform to published listings in respect of mintmark, legend format, etc. and (c) they are within the expected range of size for the type. Notwithstanding the above, it is very likely that some unofficial coins will escape notice.
